Bellingham Technical
College and Whatcom Community College
will share a $432,000 grant to help
low-income students training for
high-demand jobs. The State Board for
Community and Technical Colleges awarded
a three-year Opportunity Grant to both
colleges. "For
some people, the difference between
getting the chance at success and
nothing is a very few dollars," said WCC
President Harold Heiner.
At BTC and Whatcom, the grant will
provide for 48 full-time students, or
more if some students are part-time. To
be eligible, students must be at or
below 200 percent of federal poverty
guidelines. For example, a family of
four must earn no more than $40,000 to
be eligible.
The first step for
interested individuals is to attend an
Information Session at either college on
the following dates:
Tuesday Mornings at
10:30am on Aug. 22, 29, & Sept. 5
