Ten Real Reasons to
Apply for Scholarships
Maybe you think
scholarships are too hard to get. Maybe you’re one of those students,
like I was, who whined to myself about how much paperwork I had to
do, how much information I had to root out, and what a waste of time
it probably was because I was not the kind of person they’re looking
for.

But then came the phone call informing
me that I’d been awarded a two year WAVE Scholarship, and I couldn’t
believe my ears. My daughter was with me when I they called. We
started yelling, jumping up and down, hugging, and laughing at the
same time. Suddenly, it had all been worth the effort, like
childbirth – all the pain and suffering were just a fleeting memory.
Feelings of pride mixed with euphoria were worth every agonizing
moment spent filling out reams of paperwork, asking instructors
(some who barely knew me) to write something favorable about me, and
then seriously stressing over dotting every “i” and crossing every
“t”. If you aren’t yet convinced that the end result is worth the
investment in sweat, I’ve compiled a “Ten real reasons to apply for
scholarships list.” They are:

| 9 |
It’s one less thing to worry about – how to pay for your
education. |
| 8 |
Your friends and family will be in amazed at you. |
| 7 |
It’s not like getting student loans you will be repaying until
you retire. |
| 6 |
It
looks great on a resume. |
| 5 |
People will actually believe you’re smart. |
| 4 |
It
makes getting other money for school a lot easier. |
| 3 |
There won’t that many times in your life that people will give
you free money! |
| 2 |
There is so much scholarship money available that never even
gets claimed. |

Being awarded a scholarship is the greatest feeling in the
world – almost like winning the lottery! I said almost. |
Just go for it – you have nothing to
lose!
